Halloween in Canterbury 2025

Sinead Hanna
1st September 2025

Spooky season is one of the best times to enjoy the ancient streets and historic buildings of Canterbury! So book a break and get ready to explore the misty cobbled streets of one of the country's oldest and most beautiful cathedral cities.

When it comes to Halloween, Canterbury goes all out to celebrate with fearsome family-friendly events and spine-tingling events for big kids with brave hearts. You can book a stay and explore the haunted city's streets and gorgeous countryside as the colours change, join one of the many entertaining ghost tours and storytelling experiences in the city centre, or bring the family for a fun-packed day of mild frights at half term.

This year we have an entire week of spook-tacular fun planned, so take a look at what's in store, if you dare...

Need an atmospheric place to stay? Consider a room at historic venues such as The Falstaff Hotel or the House of Agnes Guest House for old world charm, or head to the spooky grandeur of the Abbots Barton Hotel. There are plenty of pubs with rooms in the city, including The Corner House and The Millers Arms - they might even have some resident ghosts to entertain you!

The Paper Cinema
24 & 25 Oct | 7.30pm | The Gulbenkian

Short tales of other worlds; ghosts, dreams and the supernatural. The Paper Cinema create extraordinary, magical worlds with vivid pen and ink drawings, puppetry, and a treasure trove of acoustic and electronic sounds.

Performed by two puppeteers and a multi-instrumentalist, The Paper Cinema return to their ‘out-of-a suitcase’ origins to delight you with atmospheric tales of ghosts, dreams and the supernatural.

This show gathers favourite short stories, including the dream-like Night Flyer, humorous Devil in Cornwall, spooky Wanderer and Edgar Allan Poe’s King Pest.
