Enjoy Morris Dancing at Folk Lore Kent’s Mayhem Fair
Following the open procession at midday, local dance side Bower Street Morris and guests will perform through the afternoon at Folk Lore Kent’s Mayhem Fair, in Dane John Gardens.
Bower Street Morris are a hankie-waving, cocktail-sipping, high-leaping mixed Cotswold team based in the People's Republic of Margate. When not gadding about the country dancing Bledington really, really well, they can be found organising and hosting their inclusive seasonal Nights for Weird Folk in Thanet.
Dressed in trademark red-and-white stays, Belles of London City have delighted audiences around the country with vibrant and energetic Cotswold Morris since 2009. Their traditional folk rhythms, high jumping, audience participation and general horseplay mix to deliver a toe-tappingly infectious dance spectacle.
A vibrant Brighton-based women’s Morris side, Cuckoo’s Nest perform Cotswold dances with forays into border and international dance styles, including Basque and Portuguese.
Based in South East London, Quaggy Morris are a mixed Cotswold side performing high octane stick and hanky dancing. Named after the local Quaggy river, their costume echoes the contemporary, folkloric White Stag murals of the elusive Lewisham Natureman.
Sussex Junction Morris are an energetic mixed Morris side who travel across the country to perform at festivals and weekends of dance. They perform the Bucknell and Sherborne traditions with their own twist, as well as local Sussex dance styles.
The event is part of Canterbury Unlocked, a city-wide celebration.
