George and the Dragon - a mumming play by Trudgepig Folk Theatre

Free event at 1.30pm

Trudgepig Folk Theatre irreverently reinterpret traditional mumming plays, bringing a healthy dose of absurdism to English folk traditions. Expect masks and tatters, song and dance, and plenty of unruly audience interaction.

George and the Dragon is Trudgepig Folk Theatre’s take on a traditional mumming play for spring. In a battle of fists and feet, the pugilistic George takes on a suave dragon and a foppish knight, keeping the Quack Doctor in business. Music, dance, wooden swordplay and folk-inspired silliness.

Trudgepig will perform near the bandstand at Folk Lore Kent’s Mayhem Fair, in Dane John Gardens.

The event is part of Canterbury Unlocked, a city-wide celebration.
