Easter is a great time to visit Canterbury for a day, a weekend or a longer stay! If you're looking for things to do for the Easter holidays, we've got plenty of suggestions and ideas to dive into, plus lots of events to keep little and big kids entertained.

The Beaney House of Knowledge

Pay a visit to The Beaney House of Knowledge, a free museum filled with incredible curios and exhibits, a brimming library and regular exhibitions.

This spring, enjoy their new Mischief at the Museum exhibition and interactive family trail, The Great Plant Plot!

A trail of notes has revealed a mischievous scheme; our newest staff member, Herb McLeaf, has been secretly sowing seeds, aiming to make The Beaney bloom like never before...

  • Solve interactive puzzles around the building
  • Explore the museum collection
  • Collect stamps to fill your greenhouse
  • Finish the trail to collect a tasty treat

£6 per trail (includes one participation prize and competition entry), from 14th February to 19th April (closed Mondays except 6th April).

Howletts Wild Animal Park

Kids can go wild for just £10 at Howletts Wild Animal Park from 28th March to 19th April 2026 (online offer), giving families the chance to explore more than 390 amazing animals, including the UK's largest herd of elephants.

There will also be an egg-citing exploration trail, fun photo opportunities, seasonal snacks, and it's going to be the baby gorilla's first Easter!

The rangers will be hosting spring-themed enrichment making sessions. Help to create seasonal toys and treats for the animals to enjoy - you might spot them enjoying the treats as you walk around the park.

Grab your £10 tickets online while you can!

Step Back In Time

The city's most famous attraction, Canterbury Cathedral, will be welcoming visitors for exhibitions, special tours, trails, services, and workshops for all to enjoy, so be sure to visit this iconic World Heritage Site.

Head to St Augustine's Abbey on Monday 6 April at 11am for a special Easter storytelling session of 'The Easter Bear' by Michelle Keyes and Stella Maris. A free storytelling session perfect for young imaginations, suitable for ages 2+. Spaces are limited for this event, so booking is recommended.

You can also include a visit to St Martin's Church, the oldest church in the UK, which also forms part of the city's World Heritage Site. You can also head below the streets to discover the treasures of Canterbury's Roman Museum, where you can learn about the city's ancient past, dress up as a Roman citizen and see the remains of old structures.

Wildwood

Animal antics await at Wildwood, a beautiful rural wildlife park with bears, bison, wolves and many more species!

Why not join the Wildings Easter Holiday Club, where children can get active in nature from 9am to 3pm and learn all about animals, nature and make new friends!

Nestled in 40 acres of enchanting woodland in the heart of Kent, Wildwood is home to over 200 fascinating British species. Walking through our park is like stepping into a living, breathing ecosystem. Unlike traditional zoos, our animals live in spacious, natural enclosures that mirror their habitats in the wild. Towering trees, lush greenery, and birdsong provide the backdrop for your visit, immersing you in the beauty of ancient woodland.

Picnic in the Park

Make the most of the (hopefully!) good weather and spend some time in one of the city's beautiful parks by the river.

Enjoy a family trip along the River Stour with a visit to one of three boat and punting companies - Historic River Tours, Canterbury Punting and Westgate Punts.

Or pack up a picnic and enjoy a sunny day in one of our beautiful green spaces - enjoy the flowers in Westgate Gardens, watch the boats drift by in Soley's Orchard, or laze in the sun in Dane John Gardens.

You can also head out into the countryside along the North Downs Way for a picturesque walk through fields and woodland.
