February half term in Herne Bay is all about fresh air, family-friendly attractions and plenty to keep little ones entertained without the summer crowds. With new openings, returning seaside favourites and events taking place across the town centre, February half term 2026 is shaping up to be a great time to explore the Bay and support local businesses along the way.
New for 2026, visitors can make the most of their time in the Bay with the launch of the new Explore Herne Bay Map – The Hidden Gem. Available from Herne Bay railway station and from shops across the town, the map highlights key attractions, including a cultural trail, attractions, restaurants and cafes, bars, micropubs and pubs, retail and services, antiques, arts and galleries walking routes. It’s a handy companion for families exploring during half term, making it easy to plan your day and discover new spots along the way.

A real highlight this half term is the reopening of the children’s area at the Seaside Museum which opened on 14 February for half term. The refreshed space offers hands-on activities and playful learning linked to Herne Bay’s seaside heritage, making it a great indoor stop on your travels. You can also visit the ‘I’d Rather Be in Herne Bay’ – a photographic exhibition showing the best of the Bay.
The museum is open from Tuesday -Saturday 11am-3pm.
Throughout half term week, the town centre will be buzzing with family-friendly events, pop-ups and activities hosted by local businesses and organisations - perfect for keeping children entertained while exploring the town. Check out our daily stories that will share events across the town.
Classic seaside fun returns on Herne Bay Pier with the iconic carousel, alongside the Pier Village offering food, drinks and lovely independent traders. Nearby, Cain’s Amusements provides timeless arcade fun for all ages whatever the weather.
For a relaxed afternoon or evening, Kavanagh Cinema is a popular choice with family-friendly screenings and locally sourced snacks and drinks.
Their half term programme will run until the 19th February. Don’t forget Magic Mondays every week with all seats £5 and £4 for members. The cinema boasts new comfy seats and sound system.
