This 24-hour itinerary provides a range of activities and dining options to ensure your visit is both enjoyable and flexible. Starting around 10AM, here’s how you can make the most of your visit in Canterbury!
10am – Breakfast
If you are arriving at Canterbury West Station, then start your day with a fresh and hearty breakfast at The Goods Shed. This farmers' market and eatery offers locally sourced produce and a range of breakfast options that are sure to make you feel like a Canterbury resident. Alternatively, walk under the Westgate Towers and to the beginning of the High Street where you will find Cafe St Pierre. Alternatively, if you’re getting off at Canterbury East Station, there are some wonderful options that shall set a charming tone to your day. Chatterbox is a charming community cafe with delightful dishes including red pepper frittatas and vegan pies. Or, venture further down Castle Street until you reach the historic Tiny Tim’s Tea Room, a quintessential English Tea Room with a unique and spooky history.
11am– Canterbury Cathedral
Visit Canterbury Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site to explore its stunning Gothic architecture, intricate stained glass windows and rich history. As you explore the cloisters that are reminiscent of the Hogwarts courtyard, feel like a wizard! 12:30pm - Lunch

Located by the River Stour, its exterior is an iconic piece of Canterbury architecture and the interior is like a museum of local antiques. For those looking to spice up their afternoon with some European cuisine, venture to El Sol Tapas Bar & Restaurant, a much-loved Spanish restaurant with a variety of delicious Mediterranean classics, or enjoy a meal by the river at Cafe Du Soleil. If you're craving brisket, ribs and drinks, The Drapers Arms has a prime location with indoor and outdoor space in the heart of the city.
If you fancy eating in a local park and soaking up the sun, stop by Po Boys for their delightful New Orleans-style sandwiches, perfect for an on-the-go meal.
2pm – Explore the Beaney House of Art and Knowledge

4pm – Westgate Gardens
Stroll through Westgate Gardens, a serene park along the River Stour and one of the most popular photo spots in the city. Spot local wildlife such as ducks, swans and fish who live along the river while soaking up the late afternoon sun, and maybe board a punt for a lazy sail along the beautiful river.
6pm – Dinner
For a romantic Italian dinner, head to Posilipo on The King’s Mile. This family-run restaurant offers wood-fired pizzas, homemade pasta, and a fine selection of wines in a cosy setting.
