How far would you go for lots and LOTS of money? The Old Stagers return for their 172nd season in Canterbury with another stunning theatre production, the dark tragi-comedy "The Visit", at the Malthouse Theatre. Gullen is a dump.
This once prosperous town is crushed by poverty. But the one hope of salvation is extraordinary billionaire philanthropist Claire Zachanassian, who lived in the town until she was 17. Will she turn up for her first visit in 40 years? If she does, will she help them? And if she will, are there to be any strings attached? "The Visit", by Friedrich Durrenmatt, explores the dangerous power of great wealth and what it does to our collective morality.
A timeless theme, but perhaps one with a particular resonance at the current time. The Old Stagers are the oldest dramatic society in the world. They have been performing in Canterbury every year since 1842 with the exception of the two world wars and the Covid pandemic. Join us in the wonderful Malthouse Theatre for our 172nd production.
This amateur production of "The Visit" is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals Ltd on behalf of Samuel French Ltd. www.concordtheatricals.co.uk.
