CHRISTMAS CLASSIC SCROOGE TO APPEAR AT THE GULBENKAIN ARTS CENTRE & SCREENED TO LIVE MUSIC FOR THE FIRST TIME
The iconic 1951 film Scrooge is set to tour the UK and for the first time will be screened with the film music played live. By painstakingly transcribing the music scores and lines the Christmas Classic’s soundtrack will be performed ‘in concert’ by the FB Pocket Orchestra for one off performance at the Gulbenkian Arts Centre, Canterbury on 18th December at 7.30pm and billed as Scrooge Live. Starring the legendary Alastair Sim as Ebenezer Scrooge, film goers will experience the production in a totally unique way with atmospheric sound effects, synchronisation and an immersive musical journey that takes the film to new audiences.
The Charles Dicken’s tale of Scrooge, A Christmas Carol and his journey with the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future is synonymous with everyone’s festive folklore. The beloved tale of redemption and goodwill can now truly come to life and protect the cinematic history whilst taking the film to new audiences. “In a labour of love, Paul Stevenson, the Musical Director of FB Pocket Orchestra, has painstakingly transcribed the Scrooge Score line by line…
The work of arranging lost scores is vital to preserving cinematic history. Happily, composer Richard Addinsell’s vision has been restored through the work of brilliant arrangers like Stevenson.” Commented Gulbenkian Arts Directors. The sixteen date UK wide tour launches in Stourport before heading to a series of iconic venues across the country including St George’s Hall in Liverpool, Chichester and Worcester Cathedral’s the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich and culminating at The Sherborne in Dorset. With the festive season fast approaching the new production of Scrooge Live will create the spirit of Christmas through the power of cinema and sound.
