Join the Canterbury Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Joe Davies, for an inspiring early evening of orchestral brilliance, showcasing exceptional local and international talent in a beautifully varied programme
Canterbury Symphony Orchestra: The Rest is Music Sunday 23rd November 2025 | 6:00pm | Colyer-Fergusson Hall, Canterbury
The concert begins with Unplugged by Richard English—a vibrant, contemporary work full of rhythmic energy and unexpected twists. With its fresh and playful character, Unplugged sets the tone for an evening that blends tradition with innovation. Next comes Carl Maria von Weber’s Clarinet Concerto No. 1, a virtuosic and lyrical gem of the Romantic repertoire. The soloist is Krish Parthiban, winner of the 2025 Canterbury Festival Young Musician of the Year and a pupil at Simon Langton Girls’ Grammar School—a gifted young performer whose talent belies his years.
The programme concludes with Mahler’s radiant Symphony No. 4, a work of profound charm and spiritual calm. From shimmering orchestration to its transcendent finale, this symphony offers a vision of innocence and joy, culminating in a celestial song sung by soprano Sofia Kirwan-Baez. Taking place on a Sunday early evening, this concert is the perfect way to unwind and set yourself up for the week ahead—an uplifting musical journey from the contemporary to the celestial. Children are very welcome, and we especially encourage group bookings for schools, with discounts available—a wonderful opportunity to introduce young people to the power and joy of live orchestral music.
