Canterbury Symphony Orchestra returns to Colyer-Fergusson Hall on Saturday 6th July
A vibrant and contrasting summer concert under the outstanding musical direction of conductor Joe Davies.
Featuring two landmark 20th-century works, Samuel Barber’s richly lyrical and virtuosic Violin Concerto, full of emotional depth and dazzling technical passages. The Canterbury Symphony Orchestra is delighted to welcome acclaimed violinist Jessica Meakin as our soloist. Her expressive style and virtuosity promise a captivating performance. Following this, CSO will perform Dmitri Shostakovich’s bold and witty Symphony No. 9, a surprisingly light-hearted and ironic response to the end of World War II, with lyrical passages that you will be humming for days afterwards.
Performed by an outstanding ensemble of local musicians, this concert promises powerful storytelling and dynamic musical contrasts in the acoustically acclaimed setting of Colyer-Fergusson Hall at the University of Kent. Whether you're a seasoned concertgoer or discovering orchestral music for the first time, this is an ideal summer evening of live music. Now with a new, Sunday-evening-friendly start time of 6pm, this concert is the perfect way to unwind before the week begins.
