Canterbury Medieval Weekend

1st May - 3rd May 2026

A weekend of talks by leading historians

Talks will include Thomas Becket's miracle windows, medieval wall paintings in Faversham, 13th-century castles, medieval life in the countryside and towns, the literary culture of late medieval London - along with many more insights into the medieval world.

Speakers include Helen Castor, Marc Morris, Rachel Koopmans, David Carpenter, Imogen Corrigan. Lectures are classified under four themes: ‘Royalty and Nobility; ‘War and Politics’; ‘Religion and the Arts’ and ‘Social History’.

This Canterbury History Weekend is organised by the Canterbury Association for Medieval & Early Modern Studies (CAMEMS) and Kent MEMS. It will take place between Friday, 1 May and Sunday, 3 May 2026 at the Templeman Library Lecture Theatre and a neighbouring lecture theatre in the Grimond Building, University of Kent. As in previous years, Craig’s Bookshop will have a stall there throughout the Weekend.

There is free parking at the University of Kent at weekends and evenings. Refreshments are available for purchase at several outlets on campus. Those attending the talks book their chosen events using a pick-and-mix approach.

Any surplus from the Canterbury History Weekend goes into the CAMEMS bursaries fund to help postgraduates at Kent MEMS who are studying medieval and early modern research topics for higher degrees.
