The harbour is a popular tourist destination, both as a traditional working site and as a very pretty seaside location dotted with wooden huts, chocolate-box buildings, and unique things to see and do. You can shop for local products, enjoy fresh local seafood and delicious dishes from around the world, book a boat tour, relax in the sea sauna and enjoy a drink while watching the waves and sun set over the shingle beach. There is so much to see and do here, so make sure you take a stroll along the harbour.

The harbour is full of character and is a focal point of the town's uniqueness for both tourists and for members of the local community.

It has maintained its position as a traditional working harbour, while visitors can explore the harbour market, which features independent businesses selling everything from fresh seafood to handmade crafts, especially during the summer months. The harbour offers a variety of dining options, including seafood bars and restaurants, with Whitstable's famous fresh oysters being a local speciality.

The South Quay Shed is a prominent feature of Whitstable Harbour, a multi-purpose venue blending retail, leisure and food. The venue’s mission is to showcase the best of Whitstable, providing affordable rental units for local, creative start-ups and food outlets.

There are also several businesses offering pleasure boat tours along the coast, including the historic Thames sailing barge The Greta, and a historically recognised ex-RNLI lifeboat The Chieftain. Tours normally operate between April and October. You can also visit The Gamecock Oyster Yawl and learn about the restoration of this historic boat by Whitstable Maritime.

And The Whitstable Coastal Trail offers a bespoke route for cycling, running, walking, family adventure and health and wellbeing.
