Whitstable is famous for its oysters and fresh seafood, but foodies will find plenty of incredible dishes to enjoy down by the sea.

Whitstable Harbour is a thriving spot full of independent retailers, creators, producers and entertainment, and the street food scene is not to be missed. Here’s your guide to heat to grab if seafood isn't your thing (though head to our Fish & Seafood Blog for the low down on all things fish!)

Stalls are dotted around Harbour Market and inside South Quay Shed, so take your time to explore the area and enjoy the scenery. There are lots of dishes to share, pizzas by the slice and new food to experience, so come very hungry and happy grazing!

Polly’s Hand Made Pies

Polly’s amazing pies have until recently only been sold cold or uncooked to bake at home, but now they have moved to Hut No 31 and sell them hot.

  • The delicious meaty pies will be served with dauphinoise potatoes and gravy along with hot sausage rolls. Look out for specials too. Polly uses Whitstable butchers and greengrocers for her ingredients and it shows in the quality of the pies.

Stern Slices

Dive into pizzas by the slice in Hut No 32 with delicious toppings away from the standards!

Order a whole pizza to share. Try the nduja, ricotta & hot honey, the pepperoni, jalapeno & hot honey or the purple sprouting broccoli, blue cheese & hazelnut. Why not have a slice of each?

Slices with a huge smile, go and give a slice a try.

Food of Thailand

A husband & wife team preparing authentic Thai food in Hut No 8.

There is a very extensive menu to choose from so great to order with friends to get a selection - try the Thai fish cakes, Pad Thai, Massaman curry, Stir fried vegetables and the Thai green curry.

Delicious and will bring you back for more.

South Quay Shed - Rad Burger

Just inside and on the left of the Shed is the fabulous Rad Burger, huge super filled burgers, and not just beef, how about a Korean chicken buzz or chicken truffle & honey with streaky bacon and double cheese and of course there’s a Rodeo Beef buzz, 170g patty, double American cheese, smoked bacon, onion rings & BBQ mayo.

There is a veggie burger too The Slab Buzz, deep fried haloumi slab, grilled pineapple, chipotle mayo, mango chutney, crispy onions and baby gem.

Feeling hungry?

Dre’s Caribbean

How about some homemade tasty Afro-Caribbean dishes inspired by traditional Jamaican & Guyanese recipes?

Try either curried goat, Jerk chicken, Jerk sweet potato, beef or vegetable curry, all served with rice and peas and coleslaw. To go alongside Hot Jamaican patties and if you can’t choose, opt for a combo

Pork & Co

Renowned for their amazing 14 hour slow cooked pulled pork, do you know that the menu from their South Quay Shed on the waterfront offers so much more?

How about ‘The Mighty Big Bird’- Southern fried chicken, pulled pork, smoked bacon, cheddar cheese, garlic mayo, tomato salsa & lettuce!

If it’s too early for a big burger then they also offer a breakfast menu of filled buns, toasted sandwiches and for lunch the menu also offers mac’n’cheese with or without pulled pork, and Rosemary fries as well as the specials.

Dod Pizza

Also on the waterfront at South Quay Shed is Dod Pizza, with pizza cooked in their wood-fired oven.

If you like your food spicy, try the Hot Dod with Nduja, pepperoni, pickled chillies, chilli honey & olive oil. But don’t worry if you have milder tastes; there is the shroom or classic margherita too.

Antonia’s Snack Shack

Antonia’s Romanian Hut No 2 receives rave reviews for everything on the menu, even the cheesy chips with garlic mayo!

The big hits are the Schnitzels, available as a bun or wrap or meal with chips, the Mici meal which is Beef & Pork meat roll with chips and Romanian sausage baguette.

These are just some of the dishes available so don’t miss out on trying something different.

Please don’t forget to dispose of any wrappings in the bins provided around the harbour and along the promenades. If full, we kindly ask that you return to the business purchased from or take home with you.

We are working so hard to keep the water clear from rubbish and single use plastics (or any plastics) so we thank you in advance for your support.
