They say there is nothing as good for you as sea air, and we're sure it’s equally true for our four-legged friends.

Therefore, a trip to Whitstable Harbour is a must for all of you, and whilst there are lots of treats for their humans, there are also some rather special ones in Whitstable Harbour Market just for them. The whole Harbour area, including The South Quay Shed and The Harbour Garden café, is very dog-friendly. There is plenty of seating around the market and in the South Quay Sheds

Find out more about Whitstable Harbour

Just before we tell you all about the dog fun bits, here are just a few of the regulations around dogs on the promenades and beaches.

  • If you are walking to the harbour from Tankerton, dogs must be kept on a lead (maximum 2 metres) along the promenade from Pier Avenue and West to The Street.
  • From the 1st May to the 30th September, dogs are not allowed on the beach level at all in the above location.
  • In other areas, if an officer appointed by CCC requests a lead be used, this must be adhered to.
  • As the area around the harbour does get quite a lot of foot & paw traffic we would suggest dogs are kept on a lead and of course clean up that poop and dispose of in the bins. This is a working harbour, and it's important to keep the waters free of plastic.
  • Once you have visited the market, you can walk along the promenade to Whitstable Beach, which is dog friendly all year around, but please remember to clean up after your dog.

The House of Dawg

Before the edible treats is the serious shopping and this is the place, their beautifully hand designed and made in Kent by Cheryl-Ann, the House of Dawg range of collars, leads, poop bags, all to match of course, from Juicy Dog, Flower Power, XOXO to Tattoo and So 80’s  . There will be a style your dog will sport beautifully.

And for the cooler weather, coats, jumpers and hoodies and cooling bandanas for the Summer, your dog will always look totally stylish and be equipped for walks throughout the year.

When the sensible shopping is finished then there are toys of all descriptions including ball throwers and so many fluffy toys!

There is plenty of seating around the food huts so you can keep your pooch happy whilst you enjoy the human treats on offer.

A great place to enjoy some local food from the Harbour, see our Blog on Picnics to the Beach for inspiration. Just make sure you have packed that rug for the beach, relax and enjoy!
