They say nothing is as good for you as sea air - and that's true for our four-legged friends too!
A trip to Whitstable Harbour is a must for the whole family. While there are lots of treats for their humans, there are also some rather special ones in Whitstable Harbour Market just for pooches. The whole Harbour area including The South Quay Shed and The Harbour Garden café are all very dog friendly, with plenty of seating around the market and inside South Quay Sheds.
Just before we tell you all about the dog fun bits, here are just a few of the regulations around dogs on the promenades and beaches.
- If you are walking to the harbour from Tankerton, dogs must be kept on a lead (maximum 2 metres) along the promenade from Pier Avenue and West to The Street.
- From the 1st May to the 30th September, dogs are not allowed on the beach level at all in the above location.
- In other areas, if an officer appointed by CCC requests a lead be used, this must be adhered to.
- As the area around the harbour does get quite a lot of foot & paw traffic we would suggest dogs are kept on a lead and of course clean up that poop and dispose of in the bins. This is a working harbour, and it's important to keep the waters free of plastic.
- Once you have visited the market, you can walk along the promenade to Whitstable Beach, which is dog friendly all year around, but please remember to clean up after your dog.
