A seaside Christmas to remember
At this time of year, Whitstable and Tankerton are full of festive charm with independent shopping, great food and much-loved traditions. From sparkling lights and artisan markets to cosy pubs and unique gift shops, the towns offer everything you need for a memorable seasonal day out.
Whitstable Christmas Lights & Lantern Parade
A festive highlight is the Whitsparkle Lantern Parade and Christmas lights switch-on on Saturday 28 November. Celebrations begin with live music at Deadmans Corner in the harbour from 1pm, while visitors can make lanterns in the South Quay Shed and enjoy mulled wine.
The Christmas tree countdown and switch-on takes place at 4.30pm, alongside the lighting of the Fisherman's Christmas Tree, created from fishing baskets. The Lantern Parade then travels up the High Street, illuminating the town's festive lights.
Twinkling Tankerton
The volunteers behind Talk of Tankerton once again transform the high street with Christmas trees and festive lights, creating a magical backdrop for seasonal shopping. Visit The Bears Trading Company for festive gifts, bears, hot chocolate and homemade cakes, Quite Contrary for gifts and homeware, and Kaffeine for coffee and stylish homeware.
The Christmas Artisan Markets on Sunday 13 December are also perfect for picking up those final festive gifts.
