If you want to keep supporting local, grab great fresh produce, find one-of-a-kind products and even a few bargains, nothing beats a great local market. Check out our highlights from around the district.
Canterbury Vegan Fair
For the very best vegan products and ethical treats, this monthly market is a must visit. Held on the third Saturday of each month in St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Canterbury High Street, the vegan market opens from 10.30am to 4pm and offers a mini festival atmosphere with regular speakers, cooking demos and live music as well as a fabulous array of vegan stalls selling products, produce and tasty treats. The market is held by Kent Vegan Events, which organises runs ethical, inclusive, vegan events that are animal-friendly, human-friendly and planet-friendly. All events are inclusive and welcoming.
Farmers' Markets
Find the freshest seasonal veg, the best cuts of meat and the freshest fish at one of Canterbury's much loved farmers' markets. The Goods Shed operates daily Tues to Sun in a former railway goods shed by Canterbury West Station, and is famous not only for its wonderful produce but also its restaurant and foodie stalls where you can get a cheese box, a fine bottle of wine and a coffee or a cocktail when the shopping's complete.
The Herne Bay Craft and Farmers' Market takes place on the 2nd Sunday of every month and you can meet a host of traders and local producers. There truly is something for everyone, and the market has seasonal themes throughout the year. Find them at Wimereux Square.
The Bridge Farmers' Market takes place on 2nd and 4th Saturday of every month from 9am - 12noon at the Red Lion Inn in Bridge, and promises good-quality, value-for-money local produce as well as local craft stalls.
Canterbury Weekly Market
Head to St George's Street every Wednesday and Friday to support the stallholders of Canterbury's City Centre Market, and find gifts, clothing, local crafts, fresh produce and food and drink stalls.
Harbour Market Whitstable
An open-air showcase of locally-created, premium and hand-crafted goods and fine art down by the sea. Set in the working harbour of Whitstable, the market stalls are open every Saturday and Sunday in the winter with increased hours into spring and summer. Here you'll find paintings, drawings, prints, photography, jewellery, wrought iron work, ceramics, textiles and furniture - and you'll get to meet the makers and creators themselves. And there's plenty to eat and drink when you need a break!
Makers' Market
Canterbury's Westgate Hall hosts regular markets in its huge space right next to Pound Lane car park, including Etsy events, markers' markets, record fairs, foodie fiestas and seasonal celebrations. This community venue supports local businesses and makers from across the district, while also hosting a delightful array of events and entertainment all year round so make sure you pay them a visit!
