Step into a fabulous folkloric experience!

12pm to 7pm

Folk Lore Kent’s Mayhem fair will open at midday in Dane John Gardens, with a lively procession featuring the floral May Giant, Morris dancers with their musicians, and a herd of attention‑seeking hooden beasts.

Join us for entertainment throughout the afternoon, with maypole dance workshops, live music on the bandstand, Morris dancing, ‘wyrd folk’ DJ tunes, raucous folk theatre and hooden horse walkabouts and visit our pop-up exhibition in the Big Top marquee.

Programme as follows:

  • 12pm to 12.30pm Procession and opening of the Mayhem fair
  • 12.30pm to 1pm ‘Street Dance the Maypole’ workshop with Folk Dance Remixed
  • 1pm to 1.30pm Morris dancing by the fountain
  • 1.30pm to 2pm Trudgepig Folk Theatre perform George and the Dragon
  • 2pm to 2.30pm Morris dancing by the fountain
  • 2.30pm to 3pm ‘Street Dance the Maypole’ workshop with Folk Dance Remixed
  • 3pm to 3.45pm Live music on the bandstand with folk-rock band Green Diesel
  • 3.45pm to 4.30pm Morris dancing mass stand
  • 3.45pm to 4.30pm Beast Herding walkabout performance with Trudgepig Folk Theatre
  • 4.30pm to 5pm ‘Street Dance the Maypole’ workshop with Folk Dance Remixed
  • 5pm to 6pm Live music on the bandstand with exuberant trad-folk quartet Goblin Band
  • 6pm to 7pm Matt Pringle DJ plays his closing set of ‘Wyrd Folk’ vinyl
