The Seaside Museum
About The Seaside Museum
Take a trip back to the heyday of the English seaside, when thousands came to enjoy Herne Bay's pier, promenade and grand Clocktower - first of its kind in the world.
Rekindle memories of the traditional seaside holiday with Punch & Judy, and other memorabilia. Discover the secrets of the seashore, with prehistoric animal tusks and fossils, including shark's teeth! Learn to identify the wildlife of this ever-changing coastline. See beautiful treasures from the Saxons and Romans, who built a great fort at Reculver.
Recall Herne Bay in World War 2, when inventor Barnes Wallace tested the 'Dam Busters' bouncing bomb here, and learn how the townsfolk have struggled through storm and ice to overcome the power of the sea. Following in the steps of artists like J M W Turner and Marcel Duchamp, enjoy the work of local artists and craftspeople who have found inspiration under Herne Bay's brilliant skies.
With a programme of exhibitions and events there's always something new to see and do.
