Disabled Parking

Canterbury City Council is committed to making parking facilities as accessible as possible.

Blue Badge Scheme

The blue badge scheme is operated by Kent County Council (KCC). If you would like to apply or have any questions or comments, please visit their website.

Dedicated Bays

Dedicated bays for disabled badge holders are provided in most of the public car parks. In addition, drivers may use any normal parking bay, (not those dedicated for business use or residents only) provided that a valid blue badge and clock, set at the time of arrival, are displayed. The first three hours are free but it is possible to buy extra time by purchasing a pay and display ticket and displaying it alongside the blue badge. This may be bought upon arrival. All pay and display ticket machines have been modified in order to make them accessible to wheelchair users and are all compliant under the Disability Discrimination Act.

Shopmobility

The Canterbury branch of Shopmobility is located in Whitefriars car park at the junction of Watling Street and Rose Lane. Shopmobility customers may now park free of charge for up to three hours.

Dedicated Car Parks

Chapel Street car park in Herne Bay and Orange Street car park in Canterbury are provided exclusively for disabled parking.

Park and Ride

Canterbury's Park and Ride operates using low floor buses which "kneel" to the kerb and the interior layouts have been specifically designed to accommodate wheelchair users. Special restraining belts are available so that passengers can travel securely in their wheelchairs. Blue Badge holders are required to pay the daily tariff when using the Park and Ride.

Parking on Street

For details on using your blue badge when parking on a street, please refer to the booklet that was issued to you with your blue badge.
