Victory Wood
This is a place for a great walk set on the edge of the Blean Woodland area. On the ridge at the southern end of Victory Wood there are great views north to the sea and the Isle of Sheppey, and south towards the Blean National Nature Reserve. In the spring/summer listen to the skylarks singing in the air around you whilst walking along the ridge.
See a wood with a difference! The trees were planted between 2006 and 2009 at the southern end of the site to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar. This is the Flagship Site, one of 33 woods planted around the UK for the Trafalgar Woods Project. There are several information boards near the car park which explores this connection to the Battle.
See the Trafalgar battle plan laid out with trees and also interpretation structures/sculptures which are linked to this event. Pace yourself along the length of the HMS Victory Footprint (actual size). Follow the Discovery Trail and see if you can answer the questions on the posts. Climb onto the Link Sculpture. See if you can identify the trees in the Victory Wood Copse near the car park and how the wood or timber from these different species of trees were used to construct HMS Victory. Look at Nelson's statue near the car park and see what is carved into this solid piece of oak.
Free Educational Resources: The Woodland Trust has produced 6 free KS2 syllabus linked learning activity packs for Victory Wood to keep local schools enthusiastic, enjoying and learning this important woodland creation site. But it is perfect for use by families, clubs and groups as well. Each pack contains activities which develop on what was discovered in the woods. All available from the Woodland Trust website.

From the A299, follow signposts for 'Yorkletts, Dargate, Waterham' beside the Service Stations (on either side of the road). Once in Highstreet on Dargate Road look for Victory Wood sign (and Lamberhurst Farm) and turn off Dargate Road. Our car park entrance is 100m on the left hand side of the access road to Lamberhurst Farm. Car park has a height restriction barrier.
The nearest bus stop: Barn Close at Yorkletts. There are connections from here to Whitstable town centre (Saddleton Road) and to Dargate village beside the Dove Inn.
The nearest train station: Whitstable which is on the London - Faversham - Margate line. Whitstable station is approximately 3 miles from our car park along public roads.

Accessible by Public Transport : 3 miles (4.8 kms) from Whitstable station
Victory Wood has a car park and offers space for a minibus or small coach to park (outside the car park). There is a surfaced wheelchair route from the car park which takes you up to a small viewing area. A multi User Path for push bikes, horses, pedestrians goes from the car park across the site to Denstroude Road next to Ellenden Wood.
