Originally a six mile railway line running between Canterbury and Whitstable between 1830 and 1952, some of it was reopened as a cycle and walking route.

The cliff-top lawns of Tankerton Slopes roll gently towards the sea and provide an excellent view of 'The Street' and a vantage point to watch the nautical world go by. Tankerton is east of Whitstable town centre.
