Step into a magical Christmas at the Canterbury Heritage Museum and enjoy a memorable start to the festive season.
The children will love visiting Santa in his Grotto which is included as part of the entrance price, all children will receive a small gift. Great hands-on activities include making paper chains, the perfect Christmas cracker and cut out and colour a Christmas crib. The whole family can join in the ‘True or False' Christmas quiz.
Enjoy time travelling through history with costumed characters welcoming visitors and bringing Christmas events from the past in Canterbury to life. From the Romans to the swinging sixties enjoy their fascinating stories. At 2pm on each day a visiting choir will sing in the Great Hall
Festive stalls with seasonal refreshments and gifts including local produce will provide the Christmas marketplace in the garden at the front of the Museum and visitors will be invited to make their journey through Christmas as they enter the Museum.
Step back in time to Christmas events from yesteryears which include how the Romans celebrated Christmas with Saturnalia and move in to our Anglo Saxon Yule celebration with Grimbold a warrior and Ottilie his wife. Visit the Tudor times with Phillip a glove maker of Canterbury and his wife a glove embroiderer and listen to how they will be celebrating Christmas. Meet Christopher Marlowe and Catherine a ‘gossip' and discover the pleasures of the Elizabethans during the festive season. Make do and mend with Dolly Shrubsole and Albert Kemp and finish your journey in the 60s with some fascinating reminders of the past.
Admission rate: - Adults £8.00, Concessions £6.00 and up to 2 children FREE per paying adult.
Special entry for Canterbury district Residents' card holders £3 adults and £2 discounts.
2 free children per resident.
