If you are looking for a small venue that combines charm and history, the Fordwich Town Hall is the ideal one for you. Located on the banks of the River Stour, the Town Hall will provide a unique and unusual setting for your special day.

Built in 1544 during the reign of King Henry VIII, the Town Hall is believed to be the oldest and smallest in the country still in use. Fordwich, with only just over 350 inhabitants, is indeed the smallest town in England with its own Mayor and Town Council and was the port of Canterbury until the Middle Ages. Decked with lovely herringbone brickwork on the outside, the interior of the ancient Hall has all the original timbers and was used as a Court Room for many centuries. It even has a jail on the ground floor, last used in 1855 to imprison two men convicted of poaching the famous Fordwich trout.

If you want your Ceremony to be steeped in history and have a great atmosphere this is the right place to come to. It is ideal for small weddings and civil partnerships, holding a maximum of up to 35 guests, plus of course the happy couple, the Registrar and the Celebrant.

The Fordwich Arms, with its lovely riverside garden, is a most friendly and attractive pub immediately opposite the Town Hall and can be booked for receptions or just drinks before or after your Ceremony.
