Key Stage 1 and 2
Friday 15th September 2017, 9am to 3.30pm

Would you like to inject more creativity and fun into your teaching? Do you want to gain more confidence in leading music and dance activities with your pupils?
Gulbenkian are excited to be delivering a one day, practical course exploring a variety of creative approaches to the curriculum. The course is suitable for all key stage 1 and 2 teaching staff and assistants (including SEN schools).

Course participants will gain:
• A ‘toolbox’ of music and dance activities
• Confidence to implement creative approaches to the curriculum
• An understanding of how the arts can encourage enthusiasm for literacy
• Ideas for cross-curricular practice
• The opportunity to share ideas with staff from other schools
• Information on wider Gulbenkian opportunities

The day will incorporate themes from Gulbenkian’s Christmas productions, The Little Match Girl (Arthur Pita, ages 5+) and What the Moon Saw (2 Faced Dance, ages 4 to 7)- booking soon - using the stories as stimuli for cross-curricular activity. It will therefore provide an excellent basis for lesson planning around school bookings to see either performance, offering teachers ideas for lead in / post show activities they can deliver in the classroom. The course will also be useful for teachers preparing for Christmas shows in school with their pupils.

The course will be delivered by Jo Frater of Confidance and musician Nina Clark. Both practitioners have a wealth of experience working in primary schools and delivering arts training for teachers. Jo has particular expertise working with students and staff in SEN schools, and will suggest methods of differentiation to cater for students’ physical and learning needs as part of the course.
