    Details

Warnborough College Conference on the Arts (WCCA) will bring international artists, filmmakers, screenwriters, authors and art historians to Canterbury this August. From August 18 to 21, a fine selection of events ranging from visual presentations to workshops to film screenings will captivate the general public. Speakers and workshop presenters come from as far away as Australia, the USA, Asia and Europe. Locals are also well represented.

This year's theme is 'Culture, Time and Passion - The Fibres of Art'. The conference looks at how these three elements influence or are influenced by art. How art is understood by future generations is often quite different from what its creators may have intended but still it remains, and people remain passionate about it.

Events include a short film festival, chaired by the screenwriter of A Nightmare of Elm Street, with workshops on screenwriting by a top Disney screenwriter. Well-known art historians are set to present the latest research and interesting twists on famous works. An art exhibition will showcase local and international artwork. Canterbury's own David Lilford will talk about urban art and lead a gallery tour.

WCCA offers budding writers, filmmakers and artists to get hands-on sessions with the experts in a range of workshops. Places are limited so bookings need to be made as early as possible. Events will take place at the Beaney House of Art and Knowledge, Canterbury Christ Church University, the Canterbury Baptist Church and Warnborough College.

    Recommended for:
Artists in all media, academics, archivists, historians, curators, guides, students, researchers, curriculum partners, policy makers, photographers, and professionals in the fields of media, education, arts, music, humanities, science and social services. Anyone with an interest in art, art history, film and writing will find this conference and the various workshops useful.

For a full itinerary including profiles of key presenters, visit the WCCA website or call 01227 762107 for more information.
