Alister Atkin is a master guitar luthier turned performer with his band the Ghost Line Carnival. Comprising Russ Grooms (double bass), Lee Cornwall (cajon), Aidan Shepherd (accordion, piano) as well as two members of the original Penguin Cafe Orchestra, Geoffrey Richardson (viola, mandolin, spoons) and Annie Whitehead (trombone), their music is distinctly folk in character and jigs along with rich accordion, fiddle and brass arrangements.
The band released their new album To Evangeline in March. Based upon Atkin's visits to his wife’s birth place of Nova Scotia, the album is clearly influenced by the landscape of coastal Canada. Playing on their home turf tonight, the band is excited to be bringing their sea-shanty influenced brand of melodic folk to the Festival Spiegeltent.
