James Rhodes is a man on a mission to debunk the idea of stuffiness that can surround the world of classical music. Everyone should experience its splendour. Dubbed ‘the Russell Brand of piano’, the revolutionary pianist’s number one iTunes debut album, Razor Blades Little Pills and Big Pianos reflects his personal struggle with rehab and psych wards. Bach, Beethoven and Chopin became his solace. This evening James will play works by Schubert, Chopin and Blumenfeld.
The first core classical pianist to be signed to the world’s largest rock label, Warner Bros Records, he’s played the Latitude Festival, sharing stages with Florence + the Machine and The National. His iconoclastic approach weaves stand-up anecdotes about his life and those of the composers into his performance, offering an immersive experience that has won him a dedicated new following.
