Today’s tourist beaches once echoed to the sounds of boat and shipbuilding, celebrated in the Museum with ship portraits and models, traditional tools and a section of the oyster yawl Favourite.

- The fine collection of ship portraits on display – meet Ada, Annie Sophia, Cassandra and Lord March, alongside Sparkling Foam and Sunshine!
- The figurehead from the brigantine Marcella sold to George Baker of Whitstable, in 1864. About 20 years later Marcella was beached and broken up for scrap, but the figurehead survived as a souvenir.
