Self-guided session

Explore the museum with your class on an exciting self-guided (teacher-led) visit. Investigate displays, discover the remains of the Roman house with its impressive mosaics and under floor heating system, try on costume and investigate real Roman objects in the hands-on area.

Curriculum links: Key Stage 1 and 2 history, design & technology, art, literacy and numeracy.

Cost: £1 per child for Canterbury district schools, £2 per child for non Canterbury district schools.

Pupils take on the role of archaeologists, investigating and handling real artefacts from Roman Canterbury. Teachers can choose from one of the following themes; Roman everyday life, Roman pottery, or Roman building materials. The hands-on area accommodates up to 18 children, working in groups of two or three. Larger groups are divided into two, with half the class exploring the museum displays, and half handling artefacts, and then swapping round.

Curriculum links: Key Stage 1 and 2 history and design & technology.
Cost: £1 per child in addition to museum entry price.
