17 Palace Street,
Conquest House Gallery newly opened in March 2016 by portrait and decorative painter Kathryn Rennie. Exhibiting traditional to contemporary works in this wonderfully preserved historic 17th Century house.
Exhibitions focus on a group of emerging and established artists from Canterbury, London and abroad, with the aim of developing careers and bringing different art practices onto the open playing field.
Conquest House Gallery aims to bring together artists who have a profound and intimate relationship with their medium and subject.
Current Exhibition: Thalidomide@50 The Exhibition
The story of thalidomide is not just that of the living: while around ten thousand of us are still here on planet Earth, an estimated ninety thousand didn’t survive pregnancy, birth or the delivery suite. Who knows how many ‘kindly’ midwives or doctors – on seeing a thalidomide new-born – simply left nature to take its course or even helped it on its way?
We hope that this exhibition stirs more than a little emotion in you. Whether it be joy, anger, despair, admiration or euphoria – this is a subject that rarely fails to move people.
