Life as a Comic Artist: Behind the Scenes with Sally Jane Thompson

Professional animation artist Sally Jane Thompson will give an insight into her work as a professional animator both in the UK and abroad.

Like many comic creators working now, Sally Jane Thompson became involved in comics through reading manga as a teen, and went on to become one of many creators working in a hybrid style drawing on multiple points of influence. But the influence of manga on comic storytelling is wider than it might appear. Mixing personal experiences in her own career with a broader look at comic creation and two still vastly different industries, Thompson examines the incredible impact of manga on comics around the world in an informal talk including time for discussion.

    About Sally
Sally Jane Thompson is a freelance comic creator and illustrator, whose work includes coming-of-age graphic novel Atomic Sheep, and children’s adventure serial Red Jack (with writer John Dickinson, for the Phoenix). Other projects include an ongoing series of thoughtful short comics focussed on the depth of experience underneath the seemingly mundane and everyday, and Blood and Roses, an illustration series inspired by Magical Girl anime and manga.
