The second annual Canterbury Medieval Pageant on Saturday 8th July is going to be a highlight of this summer in Canterbury!
Commemorating Henry II's pilgrimage to the tomb of Thomas Becket in 1174, accompanied by his Queen, Eleanor of Aquitaine, the Parade features characters from history as well as local children in medieval dress and starts near the Westgate Towers at 11am, ending around 12.30pm. With music, drama and pageantry it is a 'must see' event.
But that's not all: between noon and 5pm, various locations in the city are part of the Medieval Family Trail*. Designed around children and their parents, the Westgate Towers, the Beaney, the Canterbury Tales, Conquest House, Whitefriars and three of the city's churches will host an exciting range of activities.
The Family Trail is for children of all ages ... even 'Middle Ages'!
The organisers of the Medieval Pageant - Canterbury Connected BID - are also working on plans for evening events with local businesses so stay tuned!
*N.B. Some timings may change and details about venues will be added.
