Our Marketing

What does Visit Canterbury do to attract visitors?

  • www.canterbury.co.uk attracts 1.4 million visits a year.
  • Promotion to the group travel trade through Excursions trade show, advertising in The Group Travel Trade and represenation (through partners at Visit Kent and Canterbury Cathedral) at European trade shows.
  • Annual Kent Contemporary marketing campaign across London to promote Canterbury as an overnight staying destination.
  • Year round social media campaigns through Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
  • Encourage and support press visits to the district. This year has seen us featured in The Times, The Guardian and The New York Times to name a few.
  • 2017 saw us collaborate with The Spitfire Ground, home of Kent County Cricket here in Canterbury. We have promoted the area as a place to come and stay rather than just visit for a game.
  • Annual Christmas marketing campaign for Canterbury in partnership with Canterbury Connected Business Improvement District.
  • Investment in the delivery of the Destination Marketing Plan for Canterbury in partnership with other destinations.
  • Media releases which celebrate success and developments in our tourism offer.
  • Collaborate with a marketing agency on the Hello Herne Bay campaign, promoting Herne Bay.

How can you help our PR and Communications?

New content is king for all our online media. Tell us about news related to your business such as...

  • Anything that's new - e.g. a new spa, new exhibition, an unusual retail product, something that you offer that no other business does.
  • Added value - e.g. do you offer guests something extra or unusual?
  • Somewhere unusual to stay - e.g. a windmill
  • Different type of activity - abseiling, cocktail making
  • Events - lots of notice is great, six months is ideal
