Eclipse at The Beaney House of Art & Knowledge

Silhouette images of local plant forms by artist Edward Chell. The lacquered gesso panels provide classifications of species thriving in Kent woodland, such as the Blean and King’s Wood, as well as roadside vegetation.

Supported by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and organised in partnership with Stour Valley Arts. On view from the Summer Solstice, Edward Chell’s images connect to a wider set of values associated with silhouettes and shadows: presence and absence, light and photography, and Linnaean systems of shape often used in guide books.
