Herne Mill

Herne Mill is a Kentish Smock Mill dating from 1789. It is Grade 1 listed, is owned by Kent County Council and cared for by the volunteers of the Friends of Herne Mill.
The mill contains original milling equipment, displays on the history and operation of the mill and displays of agriculture implements. The Wootton Room adjacent to the mill contains further displays on milling and the history of Herne Mill and has toilets for visitors (including a disabled access toilet). The mill is in working order and the sweeps (sails) will turn on open days provided the weather is suitable and there are sufficient volunteers to operate the mill. The ground floor and adjacent Wootton Room are accessible for disabled. There is limited on site parking with additional parking on Mill Lane. The mill is surrounded by a colourful garden with seating available on the old mill stocks. Guided tours are available or visitors may explore the mill at their own pace.
