The interior of one of the Aucher Villas which were built in 1869-70 for the Aucher and Cogan Trust, to provide improved housing for clergy widows, previously accommodated in Cogan House.

The architect, John Greene Hall, was Canterbury's first Surveyor and City Architect and designed the city's most important High Victorian monument the Canterbury Cemetary Chapels, 1876-7. As the first of Greene Hall's Canterbury commissions, on which the Cahtedral stonemasons worked, Aucher Villas represent one of the city's most significant groups of listed buildings.
