Canterbury District's Museums

Come and discover the wonderful museums of Canterbury, Whitstable and Herne Bay and find out about the interesting history of the district over the years.

The Canterbury Roman Museum is deep under the city streets at the level of the old Roman town. It's an exciting mix: excavated artefacts; authentic reconstructions; and the preserved remains of a Roman town house with its famous mosaic floors. The Canterbury Heritage Museum is a 21st century interactive museum that tells the often turbulent story of the city itself. Herne Bay Museum and Gallery highlights the history of the Victorian seaside resort and the surrounding area, including finds from Reculver Roman fort. Whitstable's seafaring traditions and its coastal community are at the heart of the Whitstable Museum and Gallery which has special features on oysters, diving and ship building.
