Matt Ross | USA | 2016 | 119mins | Viggo Mortensen, Frank Langella, Kathryn Hahn, George MacKay

Viggo Mortensen (Eastern Promises, The Road) stars as an idealistic father raising his children away from contemporary civilisation in the charming, eccentric Captain Fantastic from actor/director Matt Ross. In the lush wilderness of the Pacific Northwest, Ben (Mortensen) lives with his six children in Thoreau-esque seclusion, giving them a rigorous physical and intellectual education of his own design, until a family crisis forces him to re-enter normal society. Reminiscent of Little Miss Sunshine in its study of a dysfunctional family finding its way, and with fine performances from Mortensen, Frank Langella, Kathryn Hahn and British actor George MacKay, Captain Fantastic is a delight from start to finish.

"Finely wrought and inventive, Captain Fantastic surely earns the lofty praise of its title [...] heartfelt, comedic, gorgeous" **** Brian Moylan, Guardian
