Grainger Three folk-song arrangements
Britten The Ballad of Little Musgrave and Lady Barnard
Rachmaninov Suite for two pianos

Pianists: Richard Pearce and Jonathan Beattie

Robyn Allegra Parton, soprano
William Morgan, tenor
Edward Grint, bass
Richard Cooke, conductor

An original and unique work, Carmina Burana follows the Wheel of Fortune and fate through life, bringing in highly charged episodes of young love, bawdy life in the tavern, the joys and expectations of spring, submission to love, and the final turn of the Wheel. The Society will perform the work in Carl Orff’s version for two pianos and percussion.

The concert will also feature arrangements of folk tunes by Percy Grainger and Benjamin Britten’s hauntingly sad Ballad of Little Musgrave and Lady Barnard, written for friends of his in a prisoner-of-war camp in Germany. Movements of Rachmaninov’s Suite for two pianos will provide a moving and lush addition to round off the evening.
