Radio Arts has been promoting radio art activity and practice across South East Kent via a series of free public Radio Art workshops in Herne Bay, Canterbury, Margate and Broadstairs.
The workshops offered the public a hands-on investigation of the many different ways in which radio can be approached artistically, whether recording hidden soundscapes, creating audiomaps, playing with the language of everyday radio via editing and collage through to building home-made mini-FM transmitters for micro performances.
This week-long show in the gallery will present material from these recent radio art interventions. It will also showcase a series of new Radio Arts Commissions exploring the theme of ‘Dreamlands’, which will be broadcast for the first time in the gallery prior to their broadcast by community and radio art stations worldwide.
The showcase also features ‘Radio Recall’, a radio installation by Magz Hall drawing on local peoples’ memories of radio and award-winning digital artists Genetic Moo will be visualising radio across the space.
Radio Arts was founded by lecturer, producer and sound
and radio artist Magz Hall and artist, producer and musician Jim Backhouse to promote radio as a site for creative experimentation and intervention, with the additional aim to broaden participation in community radio projects.
